ACADEMICALLY & INTELLECTUALLY GIFTED

DEFINITION

The Public Schools of Robeson County defines gifted students as those who perform or show potential for performing at high levels of accomplishment when compared with others of their age, experience, or environment. Giftedness may also manifest itself in ways other than academics-areas such as creativity, leadership, and the arts should be considered as part of the total program. These gifted children and youth exist within all ethnic, geographic, and socioeconomic groups. These students, by exhibiting a high performance capability-intellectually or academically-require differentiated services beyond those ordinarily provided by the regular education program.
