📌 PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE LEADERS - St. Pauls High School JROTC 📌

🤝 RECOGNITIONS 🤝

👏 The PSRC Migrant Education Program Team was recognized for receiving the 2023-2024 Award for the Outstanding Migrant Education Program from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction during the North Carolina Migrant Education Program Summit held Tuesday in Cary. PSRC is the first district in North Carolina MEP Summit history to earn an award back-to-back! PSRC received the Continuous Program Improvement Award in 2023.

🤝 Six Pembroke Elementary School staff members were recognized for their swift and courageous actions taken when an individual with a weapon entered their school. The following individuals were recognized during the presentation: Joanna Hunt, Principal; Hattena Worriax Scott, Assistant Principal; Kimberly Jacobs, Secretary; Danyel Jolicoeur, Physical Education Teacher; Jennifer Locklear, Secretary/Bookkeeper; and Michelle Oxendine, Social Worker.

👏 Oxendine Elementary School Principal Dr. Sheri Herndon was praised by Superintendent Dr. Williamson for her instructional leadership which steered her school to academic growth. The school is among 29 schools across the state awarded funding as part of House Bill 259. Schools that received funding exceeded expected growth during the 2022-2023 school year and were identified as at least 80% economically disadvantaged.

Oxendine Elementary School was allocated $113,611 in PRC251-Economically Disadvantaged Public School Support Funds. The goal is to provide bonuses to eligible employees for their efforts in achieving academic growth. More information will be released once those individuals and the amount of the bonuses are determined.

In other business, PSRC Board of Education members approved:

📌 2024-2025 Title VI Grant.

📌 PRC 071 (additional teacher supplement). Information will be released by the Finance Department about the supplement and who is eligible. The goal is to pay supplements in June with the regular teacher supplement.

🚌 Transportation Updates

PSRC Transportation Director Dr. Rob Guzman presented information about the 2023-2024 TIMS Transportation Audit. The TDTIMS system is the school district's bus routing system. Guzman said the district has increased its ridership. He also said the school district is above 95% for bus miles and almost at 95% for total driver hours. The goal is to get to 100%. Guzman said data in the audit supports the efficiency of the Transportation Department.

Guzman also gave an update on activity buses, stating that the district's receipt of an NC DEQ Grant will allow the district to replace old buses with 4 new ones.

📝 Tribal Data Presentation Information

Board members heard from PSRC Assistant Superintendents Jennifer Freeman and Dr. Windy Dorsey-Carr about PSRC K-8 data as it relates to trend data for American Indian students. Data shows continuous improvement for the district. In all subjects combined (Science, Reading and Math) for grades 3-8, American Indian students increased proficiency from 20.9% in 2021 to 36.50% in 2023. In combined areas (Biology, Math 1, Math 3, and English II) high school EOC data shows that American Indian students increased proficiency from 23.2% in 2021 to 40.40% in 2023.

The information and 2024-2025 Title VI Grant information was shared later that evening with the Lumbee Tribe.

📌 Moment of silence observed

The board also held a moment of silence at the beginning of the meeting to honor the memory of Lumberton High School sophomore Jacoby Merritt, St. Pauls Elementary School third grader Estrella Cortes Rodriguez and former educator and longtime Robeson County Commissioner Noah Woods who passed away recently.
