The Public Schools of Robeson County were delighted to receive a donation of 400 books on June 22, 2020 from Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and the Shawn Knisley Marine Corps League sponsored Toys for Tots/Cape Fear NC. This donation of books will be distributed to children in grades K- 5 so they can master challenging curricula and meet standards through the expansion of a home library. Supporting our students in Robeson County to meet state standards in core academic subjects while supporting families is a shared vision of the Public Schools of Robeson County and the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation and Toys for Tots/Cape Fear NC.
Over the past few months families have been experiencing anxiety with children concerning remote learning as a result of COVID-19 and this book donation has been a way to show families that Toys for Tots/Cape Fear is here to help guide students through literacy while developing a love for learning. Students that attend a Title I school and are identified through McKinney Vento, Migrant Education or referred through the Parent Center will be given the gift of literacy thanks to the campaign in collaboration with the Book Depot.
The Public Schools of Robeson County would like to cordially thank the following individuals for making this partnership available to the students; Lt. Col. David Cooper VP of Operations for Marine Toys for Tots Foundation, Don Bennett Jr. of Toys for Tots/ Cape Fear NC, Cumberland County Schools Social Work Coordinator Ms. Pamela Story, Ms. Parent Coordinator for the Public Schools of Robeson County Ms. Amy Haigler, McKinney Vento Liaison Ms. Lynn Fuqua, Migrant Special Populations Coordinator Ms. Serilda Godwin and Director of Student Support Services Ms. Jadell Dial Hawks.
